The Friends of the Monterey Symphony will hold a
concert preview luncheon on Friday, February 19 at the Golf Club at
Carmel Valley Ranch. Guest conductor Dmitry Yablonsky will be the
featured speaker. The cost of the luncheon is $45 per person and
reservations need to be made by Tuesday, February 16. For additional

At the age of six, young Dmitry was accepted into the Moscow Central Music School for gifted children and, at the age of 9, he gave his orchestral debut playing Haydn's Cello Concerto in C Major. In 1977, Dmitry Yablonsky immigrated to the United States to continue his studies at the Juilliard School of Music, the Curtis Institute, and Yale University. As a soloist, he has performed all over the world in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Concertgebouw Hall, Teatro alla Scala, the Great Halls of Moscow and St. Petersburg, Taiwan National Hall and many others. He has collaborated with such conductors as Hiroyuki Iwaki, Dmitry Kitaenko, Vladimir Fedoseev, Kzistof Penderecki in his own cello concerto and many more. His chamber music partners include his mother Oxana Yablonskaya, Victor Tretiakov, Yuri Bashmet, Vadim Repin, Boris Beresovsky, Jean Bernard Pommier and many more. Dmitry has performed the American premiere of sonata No.26 by Luigi Boccherini and a concerto by Anton Filtz. By chance in 1990, Dmitry was asked to conduct an octet by Igor Stravinsky in Camerino, Italy, with members of Santa Cecilia Orchestra of Rome. Interested in conducting since he was 18 years old, he pursue a duel career as conductor. At Yale University, he spent time with legendary conducting teacher Otto-Werner Muller and since 1992 has studied with Yuri Simonov, the chief conductor of Bolshoi Opera. As a conductor, Mr. Yablonsky has collaborated with such famous soloists as Yuri Bashmet, VadimRepin, Boris Berezovsky, Montserrat Caballe, Roberto Alagna and his mother, Oxana Yablonskaya. Dmitry Yablonsky has performed in recital in many European countries, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and South Africa. In 1998, Dmitry Yablonsky founded a summer Festival on the French-Spanish border in the Pyrenees mountains, which is called Puigcerda Festival where many world class musicians come to perform and give master classes. Dmitry Yablonsky has recorded more than 40 albums for labels like Naxos-Marco Polo, Erato, Conoisseur Soc, EMS, Discover, Sonora, Bel Air Music and Chandos. His recording with Repin and Berezovsky of the Tchaikovsky Trio and Schostakovich Trio for the Erato label, has won numerous prizes. He has recorded a world premiere CD of Nino Rota cello concertos for Chandos. His recording of the Miklos Rozsa Violin Concerto received a Grammy nomination. The Monterey Symphony, under the artistic leadership of Max Bragado-Darman, is the only fully-professional orchestra serving the communities of the Monterey Bay, Salinas, Salinas Valley, Big Sur, and San Benito County. It provides triple performances of a seven-concert subscription series at Carmel’s Sunset Theater and Salinas’ Sherwood Hall, annual holiday concerts, and an extensive youth activities program, including more than 200 visits to classrooms by musicians, which culminates in concerts by the full orchestra for school children. The Monterey Symphony is a nonprofit, public benefit
